NCAO Business Meeting Minutes

Treasurer’s Report

 Dr. Keith Sellers reported that we have a First Citizens Bank balance of $36,650.06, and  a Little Bank CD of $18,302.68.

 In 2007, the NCAO donated $2000 to the AAOF in memory of Drs. Robert Wentz, John Bottoms, James Legget, Jr., and William Ditto in 2007.  A $2000 donation will also be made to the AAOF in 2008 in memory of Drs. Bill Craig and Galen Quinn.  The NCAO also donated $1000 for sponsorship of the NC Dental Society annual meeting in 2007.

SAO Report

 Sharon Hunt, Executive Director of the SAO, addressed issues concerning specialty care and access to care.  She also discussed the SAO meeting in Orlando on November 5-9, 2008, and encouraged everyone to attend.  The SAO is also sending 5 members to Washington DC for a Governmental Affairs meeting.

 Dr. Henry Zaytoun, SAO Secretary/Treasure, encouraged us to send one or two young members to the Leadership Development Class.

 AAO Delegate Report

 Dr. Watt Cobb distributed a thorough report to the membership that included reports in the following areas:

-         AAO Foundation

-         Council on Communications

-         2006 AAO Patient and Member census study

-         Vision Statement

-         SCHIP

-         AAO Lobbyists

 President’s Report

 Dr. Rick Alston outlined the following issues that came to his attention in 2007:

-         Nine new members were admitted in 2007 (213 active; 280 total)

-         No cases were brought to the Peer Review Committee

-         Dr. Mark Casey, director of the state Medicaid Commission, sent a letter asking our help in enrolling orthodontists.  A sub-committee has been formed headed by Dr. David Hall

-         Dr. Rick Alston will serve on the NC Physician’s Advisory Group for 2007

-         A form was circulated at the meeting for members to sign up for the Key Contact Program to enhance contacts with the NC General Legislature

-         Dr. Jeff Rickabaugh attended the SAO Leadership Development Program in 2007, and Dr. Ernest Goodsoon will attend in 2008

 Elections

-         NCAO Director to the SAO Board of Directors:  Dr. Rick Alston

-         North Carolina Board of Directors for 2008:

-           President:  Dr. Greg Richardson

-           President-Elect:  Dr. Keith Sellers

-           Secretary-Treasure:  Dr. John Christensen

-           Senior Director:  Dr. Todd Fischer

-           Middle Director:  Dr. Todd Rankin

-           Junior Director:  Dr. Jeff Rickabaugh
