NCAO BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

FEBRUARY 6, 2009  

Call to Order: Dr. Richardson called the meeting to order at 5 pm.  Dr. Christensen determined there was a quorum of members available for the meeting.

Reading of 2008 Minutes:  Dr. Sellers presented the minutes to the 2008 meeting and they were accepted by acclimation.

President’ Report: Dr. Richardson reviewed the Report he gave at the business meeting on February 5, 2009.  Please see enclosed sheet for review.

 SAO President’s Report: Dr. Truelove gave his report and introduced the members of the NCAO involved in the SAO (Drs. Alston, Zaytoun, Cobb, Fischer, Frazer Bowers). Dr. Truelove discussed the AAO ad campaign,

ADA membership issues, SCHIP program, Access to Care issues, current economic issues, and the Red Flag Rule.  He also reviewed the 2009 SAO annual meeting that is meeting at the Homestead .

SAO Executive Director’s Report: Ms. Hunt gave the SAO report.  She discussed the SAO legend award given to Dr. Bill Proffit.

SAO Delegate Report: Dr. Alston gave the report and reviewed the nominations made for SAO and AAO positions coming from

North Carolina .  Henry Zaytoun, Jr. is slated to be SAO leader in a few years.  Dr. Alston also reviewed the By Law changes and why they were necessary.

AAO Delegate’s Report: Dr. Watt Cobb gave the report and it is enclosed with the minutes.

Treasurer Report: Dr. Christensen gave the report and it is enclosed with the minutes.

New Business:  The two motions passed by the Executive Committee were presented.  The Middle Director will be in charge of new member orientation and the Board will consider compensation for UNC residents on a yearly basis for the NCAO meeting. The general membership approved the motions.

            A motion was introduced by Dr. Zaytoun, Jr. to donate $2,000 to the AAOF.  The donation will be made in honor of Dr. Robert Kusy.  The motion was seconded by

Dr. Richardson and was passed by the general membership.

            The motion to nominate Dr. Henry Zaytoun, Sr. for the SAO Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the general membership.  It was passed by the membership.

            A report was given on the 2010 meeting.  It will be held February 5 and 6 in

Charlotte , NC .  The speaker will be Dr. Dwight Damon.

Election of Officers and Committee Members: Dr. Alston presented the candidates and the membership approved all.

Dr. Henry Zaytoun is currently the SAO Third Senior Director.

Dr. Richard Alston was nominated for Director to the SAO Board of Directors from

North Carolina .

Dr. Watt Cobb was nominated for Delegate to the AAO House of Delegates.

Dr. Sylvia Frazier Bowers was reappointed to the Scientific Affairs Committee.

Dr. Keith Sellers presented a plaque to Dr. Greg Richardson on behalf of the NCAO and thanked him for his hard work and the wonderful meeting he conducted this year.
