NCAO Business Meeting
Sheraton Imperial Hotel
February 4, 2006
Dr. Ray Ball convened the meeting at 5:00. He welcomed all the attendees and thanked the speaker, Dr. David Sarver.
President's Report
Dr. Jack Silvers passed away October 31, 2005 and Dr. Ball reported that the Board recommended making a $2000.00 donation to the AAOF in his memory.
Dr. Ball reported that the Board recommended a donation of $15,000 to the W.R. Proffit Faculty Development Fund.
Dr. Ball reported that the Board recommended a $1000.00 donation to the North Carolina Dental society for use at their 2006 annual meeting.
SAO President’s Report
Dr. Richard McClung encouraged all of us to attend the 2006 SAO meeting in Destin , Florida , October 26 – 28, 2006. Dr. McClung also discussed the SAO involvement in Hurricane Katrina relief, the IAF long term trend report, and the Council on Communications proposed public relations program.
SAO Executive Director’s Report
Sharon Hunt, the Executive Director of the SAO presented a power point presentation highlighting the 50th anniversary of the NCAO, the Leadership Development Program, and the current state of SAO technology and continuing education.
Sharon also reminded us to be cognizant of Anti-Trust Laws and anti-competitive activities.Financial Report
Dr. Alston reported that we currently have a Southern Bank checking account balance of $41,301.51 and a balance of $40,947.60 in our CD on deposit with the Little Bank in Kinston , NC .
During the year, we donated $6250.00 to the AAOF, fulfilling our “Beat Nebraska” pledge of $25,001. We also donated $15,000.00 to the W.R. Proffit Faculty Development fund at the UNC School of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics
AAO Delegate Report
Dr. David Hall presented the AAO Delegate’s report. In summary, the 2005 House of Delegates considered resolutions in three major areas: (1.) Evidence - based dentistry; (2.) Financial Support for Orthodontic Education; and (3.) Dues assessment to support an AAO Consumer Education Campaign.
Elections
Dr. Keith Black presented the following slate of nominations:
a. Delegate to the AAO House of Delegates: Dr. Watt Cobb
b. Scientific Affairs Committee: Dr. Sylvia Frazier Bowers.
c. NCAO President – Dr. Madeline Serrano
d. NCAO Vice-President – Dr. Richard Alston
e. NCAO Secretary-Treasurer – Dr. Greg Richardson
f. NCAO Senior Director – Dr. Keith Sellers
g. NCAO Middle Director – Dr. John Christensen
h. NCAO Junior Director – Dr. Todd Fischer.
On motion, the proposed slate of nominees was elected unanimously.
Dr. Madeline Serrano presented Dr. Ray Ball with a President’s Plaque for his service to the NCAO.
Dr. Serrano reminded all present that next year’s meeting will be at the Sheraton Imperial in Raleigh and will feature Charlene White.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00.
